Biography
Born in the French town of Saint-Remy in 1987, Fred Nardin was drawn to music early on and started
playing piano at age fIve.
At the age of ten years, he began his studies at the Chalon-sur-Saône Conservatory where he first studied classical piano, starting to play jazz three years later. He earned a master’s degree in the 2011 at the Great Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), having studied with Herve Sellin, Riccardo Del Fra, Glenn Ferris, Francois Theberge, Dre Pallemearts among others. He won the Django Reinhardt prize (French Jazz musician of the year from Academie du Jazz) in 2016 and is nominated for the Victoires du Jazz (award for the young jazz artist of the year ) in 2018.
In 2010, Fred and his longtime musical partners Jon Boutellier, Bastien Ballaz and David Enhco created The Amazing Keystone Big Band, a band consisting of 18 of the most promising young jazz musicians from the French scene. Their first album Pierre et le Loup... et le Jazz, an arrangement for big band of Prokofev’s famous work “Peter and the Wolf", won the prize for Best French Jazz Album of 2013. Their latest two projects, Le Carnaval Jazz des Animaux (a re-working of Saint-Saens’ famous suite) and their Djangovision program alongside James Carter and Stochelo Rosenberg were also extremely well received. The Amazing Keystone Big Band has collaborated with many of today’s most internationally renowned artists: Quincy Jones, Gregory Porter, Kellylee Evans, China Moses, Sarah McKenzie, James Carter, Nikki Yanofsky, Ibrahim Maalouf, Liz Mc Comb, Zaz, Charles Aznavour…
He performs in trio with Leon Parker and Or Bareket, and also with the co-led Switch Trio, the Fred
Nardin Jon Boutellier 4tet, Gael Horellou’s Organ Trio, Jean Philippe Scali Quintet, Natalia M. King, The Amazing Keystone Big Band...
He has also worked and collaborated with Cecile McLorin Salvant 4tet, Stefano Di Battista, Lionel et
Stephane Belmondo, Fabrizio Bosso, André Ceccarelli, Evan Christopher, Jesse Davis, Joël Frahm, Rodney Green, Eric Harland, Nancy Harms, Scott Hamilton, Benjamin Henocq, Baptiste Herbin, Ralph Lalama, Hugo Lippi Didier, Lockwood, Fabien Mary, Charnett Moffett, Joe Sanders, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Stochelo Rosenberg, Saul Rubin and many others…
